Horizontal trellis for maximizing sunlight exposure
Horizontal trellis is another popular trellis design in trellis garden. It extends parallel to the ground. Similar to vertical trellis, it also provides supports for venting plants. The big difference is that its support is horizontal not vertical.
Thanks to the help of stakes, T-posts or frames, nylon netting, plastic netting, welded wire mesh, chicken wire mesh and twines all can be fabricated into horizontal trellis. Horizontal trellis is suitable for tomatoes, peas, grapes and flowers.
Horizontal Trellis Pros:
- No further pruning to do once the plants are above the top of the trellis.
- Provide maximum sunlight and air circulation.
- Easier installation.
- Makes harvest easy.
Horizontal Trellis Cons:
- Take more space than vertical trellis;
- The tomatoes or other fruits still near the ground.
